Greed

Great, the Republicans in Congress have decided to raise the minimum wage for the first time in a decade, but only if the greedy pigfuckers get the estate tax repealed. Nice, the working poor get a few more cents an hour and the millionaires get to dodge their taxes, sweet. Well, come November boys the Democrats will take back the House and maybe the Senate too, enjoy this cause the next two years with your lame duck moron in the White House may be rough for you, better mobolize the bible thumpers!

I am a liberal in the classical enlightenment version of the word, the conservative philistines have made the word liberal a derogatory term along the lines of commie or fascist. Liberals i.e. FDR prevented my family from economic ruin as small farmers in the 1930's, liberals allowed me and many of my friends to attend college thanks to federal student loans and grants, liberals enacted the clean air and water act and created the national parks system that I use and enjoy. Liberals defeated fascism and stood firm against Soviet Communism throughout the Cold War. Liberals stand up against the religious right which is diametrically opposed to the very freedoms afforded US citizens by the Constitution. Gay marriage? who cares if two people want to make each other miserable by getting married let em, abortion? shouldnt even be debated by men, its a womens issue. I disagree with some liberal dems on issues like gun-control, and some dems who never support military action, I think Clintons reform of welfare was long overdue and I think that anyone who is ablebodied should work, not be on welfare. Liberals are our best bet from seeing this republic from being totally sold to corporations by the GOP. In a sense liberals are the keepers of our collective conscious, as Lincoln said "the better angels of our nature." Our impulse to help the less fortunate, to level the playing field, to not let corporations run roughshod over the working class, to ensure religious freedoms, that to me is the essence of what it means to be a liberal.

I can't argue with your points because they are all valid, I have a lot of libertarian leanings myself but I could never support them because we will always be a two-party system and the libertarians can also be pretty damn heartless, all that Ayn Rand shit makes me nervous but I hear you brother. At this point the Democrats still have me despite some of our excesses as opposed to the excesses of the GOP.
