1 Year Later

I know people are tired of Katrina, I admit suffering from Katrina fatigue too despite my love of New Orleans and the fact that my future wife lived and went to college there. I am still outraged however at the snails pace of redevelopment on the Gulf Coast and the fact that greedy pigfucker insurance companies are not paying folks who have paid their premiums for 50 years. I hear the right wingers in the blogosphere and on talk radio screaming about how you shouldn't build on the coast and you shouldn't get insurance coverage if you live on the coast and all the poor are better off being out of NOLA anyway, fuck you Ralph from Iowa City, that city has more culture and soul and uniqueness in one block than your whole damn flyover cornfield of a state will ever have. Should we give up on Venice or The Netherlands because they are below sea level, how about Rush Limbaugh's compound in Fla? We could fix the levees in NOLA for a fraction of what we are frittering away in Iraq, money that will never benefit US citizens. Kanye West was wrong though, George Bush doesn't just not care about black people, he doesn't care about cities or regions that don't vote Republican, if that storm had hit Houston you can bet your sweet ass that they would have called in the 82nd airborne and every disaster aid truck in the country.
